Re-domestication of Internet Technologies: Digital Exclusion or Digital Choice?

Abstract Internet access is now characterized by multi-device, mobile, and ubiquitous access. We explore the changing nature of internet focusing on social practices that shape position role technologies in everyday use. Drawing domestication framework, study uses data from qualitative interviews with UK users to how are re-domesticated. Three encompassing develop maintain were identified: spotlighting, distributing, making do. In addition, orientation, understanding, play, communication dependencies examined determine individuals relate technologies. The re-domestication reflect differences play individuals’ daily lives, availability offline resources. contributes our understanding mechanisms underlying development maintenance access, depending whether arrangements shaped digital exclusion or choice.
